Mapalé is more than just a dance; it’s a communal celebration. In Afro-Colombian communities, it’s customary for people of all ages to participate in the dance, creating a sense of unity and continuity. Through Mapalé, cultural traditions are passed down from one generation to the next, reinforcing a sense of identity and belonging. Mapale is often described as a dance of seduction, characterized by its lively and flirtatious movements. Dancers, adorned in colorful attire, move their bodies to the infectious rhythm of drums, maracas, and other traditional percussion instruments.

Tamales are an ancient food, possible emerging in Pre-Colombian history as early as 7000 BCE. Masa flour was already a staple food, and the fact that tamales could be made using any available fillings made them easy to adapt. Tamales are usually made with chicken or pork belly, pork ribs, carrots, peas, potatoes, and chickpeas.

The department of Guainía, belonging to the region of the Colombian Amazon-Orinoquía, is little-known land whose main tourist attractions are crossed by several water sources.
